Relevant, diverse books will help students see that reading doesn't have to be just the classics in high school. Every class period starts with students reading books of their choice with an emphasis on increasing the volume of pages that they are reading daily. These powerful books that I have requested will help create a culture where reading is valued, celebrated, and enjoyed by students. We will participate in book talks, book clubs, and written reflection on how what we read impacts us as a citizen and how it helps us be responsive to the world around us. Reading these books will help us explore our identity as well as help us see how we fit in the complex world around us.

About my class
