My students need engaging books to become proficient readers. Our class does not have class sets of books. These class sets will provide students with the opportunity to read together, collaborate, foster crititical Thinking, and provide deeper learning. Some students do not have access to such materials and our class library will provide them with the opportunity to learn and develop a love for reading. Third graders go from learning to read to reading to learn. These books will help them make that transition nicely. Students love To read Together and these books are not only inspirational but have great morals and lessons. I would love for my class to read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo because It is a wonderful book with an uplifting message. This book is about love, loss, perseverance, being strong in the face of helplessness, friendship, and hope. Our class would love to read Charlottes Web because it is such a wonderful story that teaches several really great lessons. Our class would also love to read Charlie and the Chocolate factory because Roald Dahl has an amazing ability to tell a fun story. He is what good fun writing is all about, and I want my students to strive to reflect this sense of joy in their own writing.
