What are the goals of this Makerspace? To provide an area where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore, and discover using a variety of tools and materials such as LEGOs, Magformers, building blocks, IQ Builders, dry erase boards, and KNEX. These educational tools will be used to encourage STEAM learning in the classroom. Play is the highest form of research. - Albert Einstein What does my school already have? To supplement the tools and materials, my school has purchased a Chromebook cart specifically for first grade. We also have Ozobots Robots and Bloxels to incorporate coding and technology into our Makerspace. What are the implications for teaching and learning? Makerspaces allow students to take control of their learning as they take ownership of projects they have designed and defined. The hands-on character coupled with the tools and materials support invention and provide the ultimate workshop for the tinkerer and the perfect learning space for those who learn best by doing. Interaction between inventors fosters a highly collaborative learning dynamic that is excellent for team building.
