The materials I have selected will make a difference be helping my active, wiggly, diverse students be alert and ready to learn. Traditional seating in a classroom does not support the complex needs of my students; so donating to this project will help my kiddos develop a love of life long learning due to their ability to focus and be successful in the classroom.
Flexible seating allows students to develop a sense of empowerment and ownership in their learning. During independent work time the students will be able to choose a location in the classroom that works best for them based off of their needs at that current time. If a student is full of energy, they can choose a wobble stool/cushion or fidget band to wiggle while they work without distracting their classmates. If a student is feeling calm, they can choose to sit up straight in a stool or they could choose to lay down on the foam tiles while working.
My classroom currently has six tables in the room with traditional chairs to sit in. This restricts students from being able to move or be comfortable while working. Students are unable to learn if they are not comfortable in their environment. As a teacher, I want what is best for my students. My students' health, mental well-being, comfort, confidence, and commitment to learning can all be reached by donating to this project.
