My students live within 2 hours of the mountains and coast, yet many have never experienced nature or natural science. Many students are from poor families and the school is under Title 1 designation with over 75% receiving free or reduced lunch. California's Next Generation Science Standards will focus students on investigation, engineering practices, and team work to help build 21st century skills. My goal is help them to explore, ask questions, and work together in order to understand and be able to answer the why and how things work instead of the "fact or definition".
