When my students come into my room, I want them to get excited and get their brains ready for learning. With the Legos, magnetic tiles, Playdoh, and other building tools, the students will come in and work alongside a partner or two to freely create and play, while also being given various "problems" that they will need to find the solution to. Instead of paper and pencil, students will be physically manipulating these tools and using their brains to analyze, plan, and problem solve. My students will be engaging in rigorous learning throughout the day; they need a few minutes to get their brains in the right mindset to learn, especially if their home lives come with various challenges. These morning tubs will build a positive classroom community by allowing the students to problem solve, be creative, and work cooperatively. Since my students will be working alongside their friends, they will be authentically learning how to interact with each other positively and constructively. This year my students will be doing much more group and partner work than previous years, and I'm excited to use this time as an opportunity to practice these social skills. These social skills will be crucial as they further into their schooling. I'm excited to begin to pave the way as they students become engineers, programmers, physicians, and anything else they may dream to become!
