Illustrated stories are rapidly growing in importance; therefore, students deserve to learn about the role of the comic book in American literature. Your donation will help students develop their own personal narratives through clever writing and art while sharing the unique perspective of a young American forced into Japanese internment camps with his family. This project hopes to pair George Takei's graphic memoir to John Hersey's journalistic-style book, "Hiroshima," to deliver an impactful unit on the American experience during WWII. Our 11th-grade students will learn narrative writing by both reading and creating graphic novels. This unit is multi-curricular, incorporating the study of literature, history, and art with thoughtful lesson planning. Please help support this project by donating a class set of 40 comic books to be shared by 180 students this academic year.
