All of our students are English Language Learners. They come to us knowing no English at all. Our school is a small Newcomers' School with only 125 students and 6 teachers. We are very diverse with 13 different countries represented and 8 different languages spoken! We take students in grades 6-8, but they are placed in classes according to their language proficiency and not their grade level. We have six levels of language proficiency from beginner through advanced. Students move through the proficiency levels at varying rates based on classroom performance, motivation, and formal assessments. Our goal is to have these students reading, speaking, listening and writing in English at or above grade by the end of 8th grade.
