My students are from Greensboro, NC, and are in a self-contained middle school classroom. They have special needs and learn so much better when their sensory needs are also met. Each student has varying needs, which can make it difficult to provide for such diversity. My students love learning new things and are eager to show what they have accomplished. However, many find the florescent lights of the classroom too bright and the hallways too noisy. They are in need of overhead light filters and noise cancelling head phones to help them excel. Others need a quiet and soft place where they can sit to relax during an especially stressful time. My classroom is designed for both learning, and to help students feel safe during the day. Even though most of the time they prefer a quiet atmosphere, they enjoy listening to and participating in music. However, we are in need of small classroom instruments that they can use.
