These materials will increase my students' math skills. My students are coming into first-grade below grade level. I believe that having hands-on math manipulatives can help enhance their learning. The easel will meet the needs of my various learners by allowing them to write and reciprocal teach during math centers. My students will be learning from one another and have a platform to show their work. The Unifix Cubes, translucent counters, and Magna-Tiles will help my visual students have access to math manipulatives while solving various math problems. The Ten-Frames Magnetic Answer Boards will allow for small group activities and whole group lessons. The use of a ten frame will help my visual and hands-on students move their counters in order to solve the problem. These boards will be used in various math games throughout the year. The math start stories will be used as a cross-curricular tie between literacy and math. I will use these stories to introduce numerous math concepts through an engaging story. During or after each story, there will be a math activity that I will use the Unifix Cubes or translucent counters to help solve the problems.
These materials allow my students to solve math problems in a way that enhances their learning style.
The materials will engage and motivate my students to want to learn and will help them develop their math skills. Because my students are English Language Learners and coming into first-grade below grade-level, they need a lot of visuals, modeling, and interaction in order to learn. These materials will make learning fun for my students, but, most importantly, it will make learning meaningful.
