I have already worked to build a classroom library through donations from friends and family as well as trips to thrift stores, but these specific books will help diversify and update my classroom library with contemporary voices and books in better condition. Each book has been selected with my students (and their unique interests and abilities) in mind. My students will have more choice and a greater chance of finding a book that could spark their interest and enrich their experience with literature. "No book is right for every student, and classroom libraries offer ongoing opportunities for teachers to work with students as individuals to find books that will ignite their love for learning, calm their fears, answer their questions, and improve their lives in any of the multiple ways that only literature can." (NCTE's Statement on Classroom Libraries, 2017). With these books will come rich conversations about texts, stronger readers, and in turn, stronger writers. This project will allow students to enjoy independent reading, promote literacy skills and strategies, and cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment for diverse students, backgrounds, reading levels, and interests.
