Our students enjoy music and rhythms, and playing instruments together provide a social experience for all, regardless of abilities. Although I get to see the benefits of music for people with disabilities every day, this article from Psychology Today explains it more eloquently. I have students who cannot speak or move independently who smile at the beat of a drum, and I see individuals who cannot read or write that learn the pattern of a dance with ease. I am requesting a Deluxe Classroom Cajón for my students to have the drum circle experience while still allowing them to have their own space if they need it.
