In first grade, the most important instruction is given as a whole group on our carpet. The key to this instruction is having an easel where we can practice shared writing and reading, math facts, and receive phonics instruction. Our easel will be used from morning meeting when we get to school, to our closing circle at the end of the day. An easel is an essential tool in the primary grades. Our easel will be the heart of our lessons and will be used for every subject. It will allow students to be engaged in their lessons as they come up to the board to practice skills they will need for their rest of their lives.
