Middle school can be very daunting to some students! I try to make it as comfortable and fun as possible for my students, while still engaging them in the rigor our curriculum demands. Having Dell laptops in my classroom will enable my students to apply math to the real world and research for projects. For example, in our statistics unit, I love to have students research a topic and create a statistical project, creating and analyzing the data through box plots, histograms, and dot plots. In our ratio unit, students "buy a car". This is definitely a fan favorite!! Students get to realize all that goes into buying a car while applying math and relating to their soon to be future! Change is a major thing that occurs in middle school. Changing friends, changing classes...changing bodies!! Flexible seating in my classroom is crucial! By adding more flexible seating options to my classroom, my students will be able to be more engaged and ultimately more comfortable while learning. The use of whiteboards and dice occur weekly in my classroom, if not daily! Having these materials for each of my students to use while having flexible seating will make my classroom environment a place that any 6th grader will want to be! Math can be scary to a lot of people. By having these resources, math will be more approachable and hands-on for my students. By donating to our project, you will not only help to increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to improve their academic success!
