"Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold." -Joseph Chilton Pearce I believe that it is my job as an Early Childhood Educator to instill a love for learning within my young learners by encouraging them to explore, discover and utilize their intrinsic curiosity to guide their learning through a hands-on approach. I am beginning my first year at this school (but third year of teaching) and will get to share my classroom with a group of busy and excited Kindergarteners. Kindergarten is the first true taste of school that many of my students will experience, and I am passionate about making sure their environment is conducive to their way of learning, which, for young learners, has been statistically proven to be most successful and beneficial through play and hands-on learning. My classroom will be home to many learning centers that my students will utilize throughout the day to guide and enhance their education, and also to teach them social skills by playing and learning alongside a dynamic group of friends. Each of the manipulatives (Pattern Blocks, Tangrams, Play Dough Shape Cards, Alpha-Bots, Magnetic Wands, Soft Building Blocks, Young Architects Building Blocks, Snap Together Letter Blocks and Peg-Number Boards) on my wish list will be used in our centers as hands-on additions to our lessons. The other items (Dice, Counters, Unifix Phonics Set, Ink, Dry Erase Boards, will be used during small group instruction and circle time (the Calendar Pocket Chart). My goal is to move away from seated "pencil to paper" work, and to offer engaging, collaborative and fun centers that will allow me to reach each of the different levels and allow them to learn the best way children know how - Through
