“Flexible spaces alter the fundamental dynamics of teaching and learning, giving students more control and responsibility, and improving academic engagement” -Edutopia. The items in my project will help me create flexible workspaces in the classroom. My goal as a teacher is to create a student-centered classroom with flexible seating. Flexible seating will facilitate collaborative learning while giving students a choice in their learning environment. Some students prefer to sit in chairs, on stools, on the floor, or standing up. By giving students choices, it allows them to be comfortable and move increasing their ability to focus on learning. Flexible seating does not increase learning on its own. As a teacher, I must create an environment that allows for choice while implementing instruction promoting student-centered learning. Last year was my first year implementing a few choices for seating in my classroom. The students remained engaged during groups as they gathered under tables, laying on the floor and using bean bag chairs. The students were thankful to be able to sit the way that was comfortable for them. Please help me continue to provide my students with a student-centered environment that promotes collaborative engagement
