Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. No one wants to sit on a cold tile floor while trying to learn and read. Having a rug in the reading area will allow students to lay or sit on while getting lost in a book. An area rug at the front of the classroom would allow students to sit on to be closer to the board, reading aloud books to the class or to enjoy for whole group discussion. My students will benefit from having comfortable areas that they can sit at while learning and growing during their 4th grade year.
