In the opening unit of my Media Analysis and Composition course, I want students to examine the way they interact with the digital world and the advertising which so dominates their lives. This will include taking stock of how often they look at a screen, reading articles about media consumption, and interacting with virtual reality in our school's library. Because Media Analysis is likely the last English course my students will ever take, I feel it is important for them to read a relevant and engaging novel. Feed by M.T. Anderston is a futuristic, thrilling dystonia novel about media consumption, the over abundance of advertising, and teenagers. I believe it is a perfect way for us to discuss not only what is really happening in society, but also to discuss the future of media.
