I teach a special education classroom with a focus on children with autism. My intermediate elementary school students are inquisitive and thoughtful; they are fun-loving and energetic. Instruction is taught through many styles based on my students' unique needs. Our class loves hands-on activities such as cooking, art projects, games and movement, especially when we get to participate with our friends throughout the school. We live in a very walkable community and feel lucky to regularly go on walking field trips to places in our neighborhood such as the swimming pool and grocery store. My class curriculum is focused on helping each student learn the communication, social, daily living and academic skills necessary to lead an enriching life and have a meaningful role in their community.
