I am a high school math teacher. I teach in a school where students are a mix from two local cities. They are a needy group. They starve for positive adult interaction. They have a desire to do well but not sure how to go about it. There are so many negative influences in their world yet they want to do well. They have an appetite for success. They are growing up in a world that has so much to offer yet they feel trapped by their immediate surroundings. It is tough to be in high school. Being a teenager is not an easy task. The pressures to do well, play sports, extracurricular activities and helping around the house can all coming crashing down at times. My students would often rather be at school then at home. They want to fit it somewhere so much and often times school is there safe place. Each year is a different type of challenge, for both my students and myself. But we forge on and do our best everyday.
