I handmade an area rug I found on clearance at Menards using duct tape. The squares I created are barely more than 1ft x 1ft and can only fit less than 24 kids in a “normal” year. Most of the time we make due by squeezing everyone on and around the rug. This year we have only been able to fit around 10 at a time because of social distancing. In our class we meet on the carpet multiple times a day. We use it for morning/class meetings, calendar time, show and tell, math whole group lessons, interactive writing, and reading lessons. I also like to share read alouds with my class. Having a bigger rug in the classroom will give us the opportunity to fit more kids at the carpet even with social distancing.
