As a brand new teacher I am looking forward to creating a classroom environment that encourages diversity, celebrates kindness, and is a positive place for my students to be. One way I hope to encourage these ideas is by providing my students with diverse books that represent themselves and the world around them. Children want to read books they can relate to, and are reflective of who they are, as well as those that help them gain insight to how other's live. Books often act as our sight into the rest of the world, expanding our worldview and building our empathy for others. Although I have yet to meet my students, I want all to feel welcome in our classroom. All should feel celebrated, unique, and special. With 20+ students walking through my door each day, I want to encourage and strengthen their love for reading by providing them with books to peak their interest.
