Our school is a title one school where 86% of students receive free or reduced lunch. Students come to school to feel safe and to have consistency in their lives, on top of all the learning that takes place. Many of our students come from low income homes, and buying school supplies can be a hardship. Our school is an AVID school which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. As teachers we strive to provide our students with the necessary study and organizational skills to allow them to be successful through their schooling and to college.
In order to fully develop these AVID organizational skills, our students need to have the supplies to fill their AVID Binders. These supplies include, spiral notebooks, pocket folders and college ruled paper. The students will have a notebook and a corresponding colored folder for each subject to help them develop lasting organizational skills.
I have seen the AVID program increase student's confidence and their ability to recall information they have learned. I know that these supplies will greatly contribute to my students' learning.
