My fourth grade students need a new electric sharpener and two organizational carts for STEM supplies. Pencils are used daily in the classroom. What becomes a problem is when the pencil lead gets too low or breaks. Students can spend a lot of time trying to use inexpensive handheld sharpeners to solve the problem. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction. By having an electric sharpener, we can solve the problem quickly and increase learning time. Students enjoy working in small groups and individually to solve hands-on STEM projects. The organizational carts will give the students the opportunity to quickly find the resources needed to make their vision a reality. Students work at a variety of levels. Some are working on collaborative learning skills while others need to be challenged with higher level thinking skills. By donating to our project, you will help to improve and increase student attention and focus which will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they have the necessary materials to complete a task. The electric pencil sharpener and STEM organizational carts will provide students with the management tools needed to focus on learning, and not whether their materials are going to work or if they will be able to find the supplies needed to complete an activity.
