My students love books! They love to read, but especially love to listen to stories read to them. We need a wireless listening center that will give them the freedom to be comfy and gather around a book on their bellies together. They love to lie on the carpet, but our current one is pretty worn out! I am wanting a wireless listening center and new carpet so that my students are not tied down by cords that constantly tangle and have the room to lie on their bellies to enjoy a book on the carpet rather than sit on the floor watching one student hold the book up. With our current listening center, my kiddos spend more time untangling the cords than listening to the books. Listening to books on CD has so many benefits, like learning fluency, inflection, following along and so much more. Our current rug was bought by me a few years ago, and is in poor shape. We are excited for new items! Being able to gather around a book and listen together is enjoyable, relaxing and builds community. All of these things are important in my classroom! Listening to books read aloud increases fluency, reinforces literacy skills and encourages students to read independently. All of these are very important in the growth and development of first graders.
