For this project, I am requesting a rolling easel, pocket chart, and markers to use with small groups to help promote language skills. With an easel, students can make meaning through pictures, shared writing pieces, diagrams, concept maps, and more. An easel can be moved close enough to capture the attention of a small group while still offering the space necessary for all to contribute. An easel will help me more effectively build literacy skills and collaboration. It is usually a provided material for a primary classroom, but is often overlooked in the intermediate classroom. As an English language teacher, this tool will help me make instruction more interactive. It will be flexible by allowing me to move the easel from group to group to have a shared writing space always at the ready. Two things I am most excited about when this project is complete: 1. Seeing my students raise their confidence and lower their anxiety about writing as they participate in frequent "shared writing" experiences! (The pocket chart will be used on the easel here!) 2. Seeing the kids build understanding together, teach each other, and post their work on the wall as a source that they return to time and time again! This is something I have put on my personal "To Buy for My Classroom" list for too many years, and I keep pushing it off because it is a more expensive item. Please help me bring this useful tool to my incredible students!
