I teach a group of amazingly talented students at a project-based learning school in Federal Way. Our school, which focuses on creating a pathway for students of color into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields, offers classes for students in 6-12th grade. I work on the Humanities side, teaching both English and History for our 10th and 11th grade students, while also serving as an advisor for a group of students from all grades. My classroom therefore sees a huge percentage of our total student population throughout the day, making it important to create an environment that is welcoming, comfortable, and provides a safe space for students to engage in creative thinking, real-world problem solving, and hands-on learning.
