The aim of this project is to get more beautiful, engaging, motivating, & DIVERSE books in my students' hands. I have seen how powerful it is when students have access to stories that reflect their own lives and experiences. The books in this project BOTH introduce students to new cultures & histories and reinforce my students' own senses of identity. Some of the titles in this project include: Dreamers; A Year Full of Stories (52 Classic Stories from around the World); Rain School; Off to Class: Incredible and Unusual Schools around the World; The Day You Begin; Iqbal and his Ingenious Idea; Save Me a Seat; Manjhi Moves a Mountain; Us in Progress: Short Stories about Young Latinos; One Hen: How 1 Small Loan Made a Difference; Home of the Brave, A Boy Called Bat and many more. These books will be used for whole class read alouds as well as be available to students through our class library. I also hope to encourage other teachers to incorporate a greater diversity of texts by promoting them and loaning them to other teachers in my school. I have dedicated countless hours and funds to building this library for my students. I (and the students we are serving) appreciate any and all assistance in offering even greater access to more incredible, diverse stories from around the world.
