My classroom library needs an upgrade. The majority of books my students have access to in our current classroom library feature cis white characters. The majority of students in my school are cis white students. I want to add books that humanize and help students to relate to those who have different backgrounds or lifestyles. The books we read can help form our worldviews and open our eyes to see people we may not originally relate with as protagonists. I have a few students coming into my class this year who have told me they don't read and they hate books. I want each student who comes into my room to head into high school with at least one book that they really connected with.
