Technology is a struggle in our title one school. Headphones are often broken or damaged before we get them. They are also cushioned, which makes sharing them a potential way to share lice. I buy and use tea tree oil to limit lice in the classroom but sharing headphones is a bad idea. Further, cleanliness is imperative to avoid absences of both students and the teacher. We clean daily. The book shelf is for silent reading. Students read in the hallways in the mornings before class and it's easier to roll the books than carry a book box. Students can be in charge of moving the shelf themselves. It's also great for centers!
