My goal as a first year teacher is to provide students with a learning environment in which they can productively learn and succeed. One way I am going to achieve this goal is through flexible seating. Flexible seating allows students to learn and feel comfortable in the classroom space. At the beginning of the year, I want to involve the students in the process of creating rules and expectations for our flexible seating options. This will help value their opinions and hold them accountable for these materials throughout the school year. Students will be given the opportunity to try each seating choice out and find one that fits their needs best. By having different flexible seating options in my classroom, my students will have a sense of choice and feel more motivated to learn. Flexible seating is a great way to help meet students' needs in the classroom. Another thing I love about flexible seating is that they can be easily transported when working in different areas around the room. The stability balls and wobble cushions will allow students to move their bodies around freely as they work. Plus, they help get students' wiggles out... I call that a teacher (and student) win!
