In Grades 3-5 I'll be using the PATHS curriculum (Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies) along with Zones of Regulation to help students understand their own feelings, as well as the emotions of others. We'll talk about coping skills and work on problem-solving. The 6th Grade students will be using the 2nd Steps curriculum to work on developing a growth mindset, decision making, and how to handle social conflicts. Each student will be given their own private binder and their homeroom teachers will each have a bin to store them. Students can use their folders to journal and reflect upon what they think about a given topic, as a way to spark conversation with their peers, and as a personal assessment tool that will show them all they've learned in a year's time.
