When I sit down to read a good book, I choose a spot that is comfortable to me. This is not usually a hard plastic chair. My students all learn in different ways, I want them to have access to all of the tools that help them learn best. Choosing a comfortable spot to sit in my classroom will help my students achieve to their fullest potential. I want my students to be comfortable in their learning environment. The flexible seating options that I am requesting will help fill this need for some of our most challenged students. Stability balls, wobble stools, wobble cushions, stools and pillows will provide a variety of seating options for students to choose from. Students will be given a choice of where to sit during lessons, free reading time and free choice time in the classroom.
Giving a student the option of sitting in a comfortable chair while he works may help him engage and enjoy the learning process. This is especially important as many of the children I work with struggle with basic academic tasks that many of us take for granted. Let’s bring some joy into learning by giving our students choices in the learning process.
