Education is ever changing. It is constantly altering and developing. This project is to support a new advancement in education within the last decade: Flexible Seating. Flexible seating is giving students the choice to choose where/how they want to sit during independent work/reading time. This promotes personal responsibility, community building, and collaboration. This also enhances engagement and concentration. Second graders cannot sit in one spot for a long period of time. By implementing different types of seating, this will allow them the "wiggle" room they need to focus! We want our students to take control of their own learning and step one is giving them a choice of seating. Instead of sitting in chairs and desks, which is the traditional teaching setting, my students will use yoga balls, stools, and pillows to sit on. These resources will be beneficial to all my students because when my students are comfortable, this motivates them to learn. In my short time of implementing new seating, I have noticed that my students are more engaged and get more quality work done. I have also noticed my students are less disruptive when given the choice of where to sit. The products I have selected will give my students additional options for sitting while learning. The yoga balls will be beneficial for my students who need more movement and cannot sit still long and need to get wiggles out while still working. The pillows and stools are for a comfortable seating preference. They are easy to pick up and place anywhere in the classroom they would like to sit due to being a lightweight option. I hope these additional seating options will help my students by creating an environment that is safe and promotes positive learning vibes!
