As a teacher, I seek to create an environment for my students to support their active minds. Now I wonder how I can create a space that will also support their active bodies! Flexible seating options beyond the traditional desk and chair are not only more comfortable, but they also support students to focus and offer choice in the process. Alternative seating arrangements such as the bean bag chairs, cushions, wobble chairs, and bouncy bands listed on my project also lend themselves well to collaborative learning experiences. Second language learners frequently need more conversation practice to develop oral fluency skills. I have also included some organizational items on the list in order to minimize my students' need to use desks for storage. In September, I will begin a new school year with a new group of students who I can't wait to meet. I also cannot wait to see their reactions when I present them with our new flexible seating options that will enrich their learning experiences in 2nd grade!
