I have taught for twenty-one years and there is not a class that wouldn't have benefited from flexible seating. I'm requesting Vidget Active Seats, Carry Me Cushions, and a Flex-Space Giant Comfy Pillow, Comfy Floor Seats, and a Balance Ball Seat. Research shows that when students can move, bounce, shift, or rock their engagement can improve. Giving them these choices to fulfill their basic needs as an individual student is key to a successful learning journey. 21st Century skills and classrooms are not focused on sitting in one place for an extended amount of time. Allowing movement will allow students to be more engaged in their learning process. Classrooms cannot stay the way they were fifteen years ago. We have evolved from chalkboards to whiteboards, textbooks to laptops, so why should a student be required to sit in rows of desks, when research shows flexible seating is beneficial in the learning environment.
