I teach a middle school class of students on various levels of the autism spectrum. Some of my most needy students are visual learners. Because my students have such individual educational needs and levels of learning the typical access to the general education curriculum will not work for them. We must take the topic from the general education curriculum and modify it for our students. We usually retell the lesson for our most needy students through pictures. From our own experience and research based studies this method has prove to be successful. This method has not only given our non verbal students a way to communicate but it has increased the vocabulary in our low verbal students.
