My students struggle in the everyday to see how math is relevant. As a child growing up, I loved everything about math. With my student population, it is very hard for them to grasp mathematical concepts and ideas. The colored paper and origami lesson books will provide my students with interactive and engaging lessons that bring math to life. There are numerous lessons that can be incorporated into a 6th grade math lesson using origami, including proportions, area/perimeter, and fraction equivalencies, which are key concept areas where my students struggle the most. My students are tactile/kinesthetic learners who learn best when building, creating, or manipulating objects. The ability to create origami will allow all of my students to discover key mathematical concepts that they need for school. Through this project, my students will also be using high forms of rigor to problem solve and apply mathematics to real-world concepts they will need later on in life.
