The school that my students attend is one that is located in small-town South Carolina. The school is considered a High Risk school due to low test scores and below average graduation rates. The school is also considered a High Poverty area, with the vast majority of students being able to apply for free or reduced lunch. Many of my students have less than adequate home situations, and several come to school to eat their only two meals of the day. Many of these students do not realize that there is anything outside of their hometown, as they have never had the opportunity to travel. Nearly 80% of the students I have spoken to have never been the coastline, which is only eighty miles away.
