As a teacher, my job is to stay up to date with the best educational practices. A popular notion of “flexible seating” has been high on the list for some time. The idea that we can move away from a traditional seating chart and provide a space where children can choose their own seating. My hope is to design a space where the children can remain actively engaged, collaborate with their peers, and communicate effectively. It is my hope that I can add many unique areas in my room that appeal to every type of learner. During my quadrant time of teaching, I hope to see active participation from students utilizing the different types of seating such as yoga balls, wobble chairs, or even disc cushions. I see this project as an opportunity for myself, other teachers, and students to grow. To me, flexible seating is a movement. I purchased six yoga balls for my classroom this year. I have seen how this supports different modes of learning. I want my students to remember that it is important to find what works best for them to make them successful.
