My goal is to use this novel to not only to develop student skills but also to advocate for students to think critically about social issues. The aim of social justice is the breaking of unspoken barriers for social mobility. I hope to evolve the consciousness of my students through select novels. I am hoping to help guide students through discussion, a critical lens, and writing to be citizens of the world who are committed to the human family. "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas addresses so many different issues that it makes a great place to start this process.
