My students excel in hands on learning experiences. They are learning about organs in the body, how the body systems work, and careers in the medical field. With the material that I am requesting, students will have the experience of being a "surgeon" by dressing like one and performing "surgery" on a person (paper outline of a body). The project is a culminating activity at the end of our Body study and will consist of a room transformation, meaning the classroom will look like an operating room. The students will dress in the isolation gowns, hats, masks, and gloves to play the role of a doctor. The students be given paper body parts and they must place the organs on the body in the correct location (surgery). These materials will allow my students to have an engaging, hand-on experience to demonstrate their new knowledge. Who wants a boring paper and pencil test to demonstrate knowledge? When you can dress and pretend to be a doctor and show your knowledge through engaging activities my students will not only score better, but be excited to learn and share their knowledge.
