I will use these tray as a way for my students to count and sort tangible items by ten. These trays will provide a visual way for students to arrange items in different ways to develop mental images of what makes a 10. Having a deep understanding of what makes a 10, leads to students being able to compose and decompose numbers in relation to 5 and 10. Also they will be forming a deep understanding of place value. Ex. 12 is 10 and 2 more. These lessons are invaluable.
