My students will be using water collected from a polluted water supply to determine how algae can be used to clean water. We will be using a peristaltic pump to collect water as well as to filter out bacteria and other living things found in the water. Filtering polluted water will allow my students to test specifically for contaminants in the water and will add different algal strains to the water to see the effect of algal species (and other variables) on the ability to draw down contaminants. My students will all benefit from this tool because all students will be running experiments using the filtered water.
