I am an elementary school counselor in Kansas. Our school is made up of about 300 students and about 73% of our school is classified as low SES. Our students are the sweetest and most loving students you will ever meet. Some of them do not have a strong family support system to give them the extra assistance at home that is needed to create life long learners. The structure and consistency of our school day becomes a variable that they depend on. My students need someone to set expectations for them. My students need someone to let them know that it may take time and it may take a lot of hard work, but they can achieve and surpass those expectations. I want to be that person for them.
