Having switched from 3rd grade to 5th grade and being unable to update my library, I overheard students saying things like "There is nothing good to read in there.", or "These books are all too easy. There is nothing to read at my level.", and also "These books are old and falling apart." If students are unable to find things that interest them at their level, they will remain uninterested in reading. I want to ignite that spark and excite them with new books. I have been teaching for the last 13 years and some of my books are very “loved” – beaten up, pages missing, etc. I would love to obtain newer titles, some classics, and books that pique the interests of students. With these additions, I anticipate more student interest and as a result, I am hopeful it will have a favorable impact on improving student academic proficiency.
