I teach in a Title 1 school. They majority of students in our school are second language learners. My fifth grade students are in need of science materials to aid them in meeting the rigor of their science curriculum. We study physical and chemical changes in matter, landforms, electricity, magnetism, and heredity. The materials I've requested will make all the difference in my students' abilities to understand complex concepts and vocabulary through the use of hands-on materials and experimentation. The scales will be used for observing how changes in matter doesn't always mean changes in weight. The batteries, wire and light bulbs will be used for students to understand and create their own circuit boards. The play dough will be used for understanding landforms, and the compasses will be used to understand magnetism. With your help, my students will be able to master their curriculum and extend their scientific thinking.
