Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to feel empowered by being given a choice as to where they will sit and with whom they will sit with. During whole class instruction and independent time students will have opportunities to use wobble chairs, cushions, and rug. Currently the students only have their desks and chair to sit at. An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student. With more seating options students will be more engaged and focused throughout the entire school day compared to just sitting at their desk all day. Giving students choices about their physical classroom space teaches them higher-order thinking skills and encourages them to focus. The seating options I have selected will help the students feel like this room is a community. It will be "our" room instead of "my" room. It will give them motivation to make effective learning choices. For the students who wiggle and need more movement throughout the day the wobble pads and wobble chairs will give them this opportunity. The wobble chairs and pads are light weight so the students can pick them up and move to any area of the classroom. These flexible seating options will help make our classroom more enjoyable and enhance our classroom learning experience throughout the entire year!
