Students will begin learning basic chords and strumming patterns on the ukuleles as a group. We will then use ukuleles in other ensemble pieces with drums, xylophones, and other rhythm instruments. World Music Drumming curriculum and other similar resources will be used, as well as beginning ukulele books. Students will also work on singing and playing together using Easy Songs for Ukulele which uses popular songs they are familiar with, while also learning music from other parts of the world and working together as an ensemble. Our goal is to reach all the students, including our lower income families, with an instrument that is easily accessible for them at school and also at home. To encourage making music is something for everyone!
