Escape rooms have become popular all over the country. They follow a variety of clues and puzzles as people try to "break out". Why not bring this engaging, exciting model to the classroom? Breakout lockboxes can be used in a variety of ways and will teach my students valuable skills needed to be successful. Lockboxes can be used to introduce a new skill or to reinforce a previous taught lesson in a fun, engaging way. Students will need to solve puzzles and clues to ultimately unlock the box. Breakout lockboxes are not only fun and engaging, but are also adaptable to any subject area. They promote collaboration and team-building, develops problem-solving skills, enhances communication skills, challenges students to persevere, and builds inference skills. Best of all, they are student-centered and inquiry based learning!
